Mariner's Court - fun shops in beautiful historic Coupeville, Washington

23 Front Street, along the historic waterfront, on the corner of Front and Alexander Streets, across from The Wharf

This wise old lady was first constructed in 1925 as a car dealership and repair, called Central garage. Located on the corner of Alexander and Front Streets, and across from Coupeville's most famous landmark, The Wharf. Here you can see a very early photo of the garage and Coupeville's dirt Front Street. The roads must have been fun during the rainy season....

Most of the buildings on the left side of the photo are still there today, although some of those on the right have disappeared.

Sometime later, this photo shows a paved Front Street.

A short while after this photo was taken, Central garage became a butcher shop/meat market and dairy. Other groceries were also available.

During World War II, the building was a restaurant.

Here's the building in yet another incarnation, as Lindsay's Marina. Must be about 1965, judging by the Karman Ghia parked on the street? Lindsay's moved here from across the street where they had occupied the old livery stable (the Windjammer Art Gallery building today).

After Lindsay's, the building became a small shopping mall, with 16 or 17 retail spaces inside. You should see our very impressive bank of 16 electric meters!

Mariner's Court as it appears today (2006). Inhabited by 5 retail businesses, this elderly lady has seen a bit of it all and is still kicking!
